Happy Thursday! It's my Birthday today (boy, is it fun to turn 18, isn't it? LOL!), and so I thought I would share a birthday card with you today. It's no ordinary card, actually, as it is a...cake card! So imagine that I am sharing a piece of my birthday cake with you all!
To build my cake, I used the new Slimline Celebration Borders dies by Trinity Stamps. These are super versatile, as they come with great birthday sentiment dies, candles (note that the flames are of different shapes and sizes - what a great detail!), boarders and even some confetti shapes. There are so many different ways that these can be used, and the fact that they are slimline adds to their versatility even more, as you can have these shapes as long or as short as you want.
I ink blended a piece of white cardstock, and added some metallic splatters, to imitate the crumbs in the sponge-like cake (of course, I wanted to add some sparkle that way, too!). I then cut various shapes using the dies in the set, and opted to use the outlines of the "happy birthday" words for my sentiment. I coloured the various elements with my Copics, and - you know me - decided to go for rainbow colours.
[By the way, the words in this die set can be used in two different ways - if you separate the dies, you'll end up with letters and a "shadow" around them. If you keep them together, you'll get the letters and a fun boarder - like the ones I used on my card today]
I then adhered all of the elements onto my ink blended "sponge" base, to imitate the look of a slim and tall cake. I made sure my "chocolate sauce" on the top looked yummy and shiny, with the use of Glossy Accents. For a final touch, I added some sparkly and rainbow-y gems here and there. Once this panel was adhered to a card base, the card was finished!
Quick and easy, and thanks to the use of markers and inks, only using white cardstock! But you could just as easily use coloured cardstock, if you preferred. And only one die set, and no stamps, too - how cool is that?!
Would you like a slice of my cake? I think it looks pretty delicious! :o)
Big hugs from the Birthday Girl,
Mirella
